Shadforth Cottage Preschool caters for children aged from 4-6
years and is based in a unique home-like environment on Avenue
Road. Great care is taken in the implementation of a curriculum
which is both teacher-directed as well as responsive to the children’s
needs and interests. The aim of Shadforth Preschool is to create
a strong link between the early learning environment and formal
schooling. The children attend the Preschool prior to their first
year at primary school and as a result are in a setting that is
geared towards school readiness which incorporates; literacy,
numeracy, scientific discovery, music, art, construction, dramatic
play and literature.
The teachers at the preschool closely observe each child in all areas of development and work closely with parents to ensure that learning outcomes are tailored to each individual’s character and skill level. Our program of learning experiences is dynamic and rich in content.
The teachers use a phonics based early literacy program and work with the children and their families on all related areas of child development. Regular feedback sessions with parents are undertaken including documentation of learning progress throughout each year.
